I am deeply grateful for Christian Science...
I am deeply grateful for Christian Science and happy to testify that it does heal. A few years ago I almost allowed myself to believe that there were some conditions it could not heal. The suggestion was aggressive to submit to surgery for an abnormal internal difficulty, but this suggestion was rejected as being contrary to Christian Science, as evidenced by Mrs. Eddy's admonition to teachers of this Science (Science and Health, p. 445), "Teach the dangerous possibility of dwarfing the spiritual understanding and demonstration of Truth by sin, or by recourse to material means for healing." Remembering that my mother had been healed by Science of semi-invalidism, I made the decision to stand with spiritual truth. The healing came quite spontaneously. Mental surgery took place, and I knew the difficulty was no longer any part of me. Happy and at peace, I went about my duties at the office with no further thought of the abnormal condition, which disappeared the following morning.
Another healing for which I am very grateful took place some years ago. I contracted influenza at a time when I was suffering from a difficulty in my back. I was unable to eat, sleep, or rest comfortably for several days, and I constantly tossed and turned in bed. One day after I had rejected a friend's kind offer to prepare some food for me, it occurred to me that I should make an effort to prepare and eat a meal. However, the suggestion came that I was too weak even to stand erect. Instantly came this arousing thought: If you understand that this condition is unreal, only an illusion, you can rise up, go into the kitchen, and prepare whatever you want.
I feebly got out of bed, pulled on a dressing robe, and proceeded to prepare a meal. My efforts took the better part of two hours, and much affirming of the truth was necessary, but before I sat down to eat I was standing upright and was free. I tidied up the kitchen, scrubbed the bathroom, took a bath, dressed, and went to the Wednesday evening testimony meeting, rejoicing in the proof of God's healing power.
