CHRISTIAN HEALING

Among the published works of Mary Baker Eddy is one of great value entitled "Christian Healing." It is the text of a sermon delivered by her in Boston and copyrighted in 1886. In it she says (p. 15): "Christian Science repudiates the evidences of the senses and rests upon the supremacy of God. Christian healing, established upon this Principle, vindicates the omnipotence of the Supreme Being by employing no other remedy than Truth, Life, and Love, understood, to heal all ills that flesh is heir to."

Christian Scientists may well ask themselves, "Am I gaining in the spirituality, understanding, and goodness which will enable me to meet an emergency or to heal the seemingly desperate case of sickness which is the test of one's faith?" We should be progressing continually to higher demonstrations, higher proofs of the healing power of Christianly scientific conviction.

Only by doing the humanly impossible, by proving the infinite ability of God to cure human discord and illness of every kind, has Christian Science grown in less than a century from only one adherent to its present status as a world-wide religion. The devotion of its followers to the art of spiritual healing is in line with Jesus' words to the twelve disciples (Matt. 10:7, 8): "As ye go, preach, saying. The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give."
