Many years ago I worked with a woman who was a student of Christian Science and who, when not busy, always read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. A few years later this student opened a business of her own, and I worked for her. I was not interested in Christian Science at the time and was taking medicine for my ills.

One day I told her that the doctor had advised me not to take too many liver pills, as they would hurt my kidneys. She asked me if I thought the pills had any intelligence, and I told her that I knew they had none. Then she said, "How does the pill know whether to go to the kidney or to the liver if it has no intelligence?" That gave me something to think about. W hen I mentioned an operation, she told me there was only one operation— the operation of God's law.

It was five years later that I became ready to look into Christian Science. A specialist told my husband and me that there was not an organ in my body that was functioning properly, and he said that he did not know what was keeping me on my feet. I was in an extremely nervous condition, and though I had gone to many doctors and tried many kinds of treatment, I had found no relief. In fact, I saw no reason for living.
