LIFE AND POWER

To understand that God is the only Life and that one's real existence is the unfoldment of eternal Life brings a sense of power that destroys human errors. It makes possible the demonstration of divine control in every minute detail of one's daily life. Mary Baker Eddy had this understanding, and she utilized the power accompanying it in works of tender, Christly compassion. She writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 428), "The author has healed hopeless organic disease, and raised the dying to life and health through the understanding of God as the only Life."

The power of Life to express its own elements of intelligence and health and immortality through its idea, man, is a fact which Christian Science demonstrates. Life, being Mind, comprehends its own universe, and all that is real is included in Life—all conscious being and every expression of spiritual energy. There is no destructive force in Life, consequently no disease, for disease claims to be destructive force, which has no place in creative, constructive Life. To know God as man's only Life, his only Mind, his only consciousness, rules out the false mortal sense of life, which includes matter and its discords as its subjective states.

Mortal life and material consciousness, so called, are false belief, which evolves all the troubles of matter—its diseases, pains, sins, and even its seeming death. In other words, matter does not produce material life or its conditions, but false consciousness produces matter as well as the sensations which characterize suppositional mortal life.
