I shall never forget the joy that came into my life when Christian Science was first introduced to me over fifty years ago. Since that time it has been my only physician.

A beloved aunt had sustained internal injuries which the doctors pronounced incurable. She was taken West in the hope that her few remaining days might be made more comfortable in a different climate. While there she met two Christian Scientists who told her about Christian Science. At first my aunt would not accept their views, but in an extremity she asked for Science help. In a few hours she arose, perfectly well, and she lived some forty years afterwards with no return of the complaint.

The night my aunt arrived home to tell us of this wonderful Science was a joyful occasion, for we had thought we should never see her in the flesh again. We asked her many questions, staying up until dawn. I remember that what impressed me most was the remark, "If you take the 'd' from devil, what have you?" I had always been fearful of a personal devil. This remark loosed me from my fear, and I saw for the first time that if I ceased to think or do evil, it could have no control over me; so it was up to me what manner of thinking I should do thenceforth.
