Public Interest in Christian Science Increases

New York

Another sign of the times is a fuller appreciation by leading colleges and university authorities of the words of Isaiah (52:7), "How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation"—to the point of including Christian Science in this prophetic statement. In a course of comparative religions at Barnard College of Columbia University, the professor of the course treated our religion in a sympathetic manner, using source material furnished by this office, not only with the approval but at the request of university authorities.

The Church Peace Union, which was founded by Andrew Carnegie, requested us to furnish a speaker for two sessions of a similar course to be given at New York University. Syracuse University invited us to address similarly three hundred students in the College of Religion and the Bible. Speakers who addressed these classes were impressed with the earnest desires of the students to learn what is the truth about Christian Science. At Cornell University a session of the "Interfaith Round Table" of the Cornell United Religious Work was held during May, presided over by a leading member of the faculty and addressed by a well-known Christian Scientist. It is expected that the increasing favorable interest on the part of the colleges and universities will be augmented during the coming years.
