"A LITTLE CHILD SHALL LEAD THEM"

To the world of today the vision of Isaiah, so wonderfully described in the eleventh chapter of his hook, may seem a remote and scarcely conceivable possibility There we read: "The wolf also shall dwell with the Iamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.... They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea." These words are generally understood to refer to some Utopian future which sounds very beautiful, but may never be practically achieved.

In the light of Christian Science, however, the vision of the prophet has a deeper signification. His words are no longer remote and transcendental. They are full of assurance and certainty and hold a promise which can be fulfilled in some measure for each individual as he understands the wholly spiritual nature of God's creation.

The wolf and the lion, the leopard and the lamb, Isaiah tells us, are all led by a little child, that is, by the Christlike qualities of meekness, purity, gentleness, and love. The study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy shows us that the Christ is eternally revealing the nature of God and man and that through this revelation fear and hatred are dispelled by Love, discord is healed, and salvation is brought to mankind.
