Several years ago I became sick with what appeared to be appendicitis. Mortal thought immediately suggested an operation to remedy a condition of matter, and with this suggestion came a strong fear of the possible ill effects of such an operation.

The fear awakened me to correct my thinking, for the Science of Mind had taught me how to overcome fear, I turned away from thoughts of matter and the physical body to my true identity as spiritual man and affirmed the reality, harmony, and inviolate nature of man. I knew that the image and likeness of God could not be subject to material conditions, which are illusory and unreal.

This change in my thinking brought a sense of assurance, and the fear disappeared. The pain, however, remained, and during the course of another day it gradually intensified until I felt as if I would faint. I continued to hold my thought to my true identity as a spiritual idea of God. When the pain became greater than ever before, an indescribable, powerful force uplifted my thought, and the sense of faintness vanished. The pain began to fade away, and in a day or so the disability had entirely gone.
