LETTERS TO THE PRESS FROM CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COMMITTEES ON PUBLICATION

Independent-Journal
San Rafael, California

A review of a book recently given in the Independent-Journal quotes the author as saying, "Christian Scientists who say that all ills are only in mind are neither Christians nor scientists."

Whether the doctor gives any arguments in his book to substantiate such a broad assertion is not stated in the review. It might be inferred from the above words ... that Christian Science teaches that sickness is only imagination. In the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, however, we read (p. 460), "Sickness is neither imaginary nor unreal,—that is, to the frightened, false sense of the patient. Sickness is more than fancy; it is solid conviction. It is therefore to be dealt with through right apprehension of the truth of being."
