HELPING THE NEEDY
"Man is deathless, spiritual. He is above sin or frailty. He does not cross the barriers of time into the vast forever of Life, but he coexists with God and the universe." Thus writes Mary Baker Eddy on page 266 of her textbook, "Science and Health with key to the Scriptures."
To material sense, life appears to be temporal and man to be composed of elements both good and bad. In this temporal, inharmonious sense of life it is believed that man may at any moment be the helpless victim of afflictions, of accidental conditions, or of incurable diseases. This apparent conflict between the real and the unreal concept of being is resolved when it is learned in Christian Science, the Science of Christ, Truth, wherein the divine Principle of Juses' teachings is made plain, that Life is God and that man is God's image, or idea.
Christ Jesus understand himself to be the Son of God. His demonstrable understanding of the truth of being resulted in the healing of sin and other discordant conditions in the experience of those among whom he daily moved, because as a witness of divine Life and Love he accepted for all their sonship with God. Thus, his love of mankind was evidenced in practical deeds of goodness and mercy. As we learn to follow his example in Christian Science we also can bless others and show perfection to be the status of man now.
