THE BATTLEFIELD

The guns have flashed; swift shells have passed.
Yet still we walk the valley unafraid.
Foes innumerable again have massed
Their bold attacks. Not one of them has made
Us tearful lest His strong encircling arm
Should be removed. But if our trust decrease
In His great power, there lies the lingering harm,
For God has kept our hearts in perfect peace.
Outnumbering foes have filled the history page.
The few with Love have triumphed age to age.
