I became interested in Christian Science...
I became interested in Christian Science when I was in my teens through the splendid example of a family of Christian Scientists. Although the mother had experienced much adversity, she remained poised, calm, and loving. She patiently and lovingly answered all my questions—questions which had remained unanswered in an orthodox Protestant Sunday School.
I did not at first understand very much of what I read in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, but I was convinced that Christian Science was what I wanted. I began using its teachings in my schoolwork and discovered that when they were honestly applied, my need was met. I had been troubled with recurring sore throat and laryngitis from the time I was a small child, but these difficulties vanished after I began the study of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly.
Since my marriage I have used Christian Science to a greater extent—in seeking employment, in finding proper housing, in healing discordant human relationships and physical problems. After my husband was healed of a sinus condition when he was in the Army, he began to attend a Church of Christ, Scientist, regularly and to study the textbook. We give full credit to Christian Science for my husband's harmonious Army life and his acceptance in one of the finest engineering schools after his discharge. Although he averaged twenty hours' work a week after school and carried a heavy program at school, he always had high marks. After graduation my husband was able to accept the type of position he wanted, partly because of the experience he had obtained from the afterschool job. Also, this position and several others were offered to him at a time when very little hiring was being done.
