Mrs. Eddy tells us that "Science...
Mrs. Eddy tells us that "Science can heal the sick, who are absent from their healers, as well as those present, since space is no obstacle to Mind" (Science and Health, p. 179). Recently this was proved when a pain in my back was so severe that every time I attempted to sit up or walk I fainted. My husband and I were twelve hundred miles from home on a vacation. While he left me to drive to the nearest city to telephone a practitioner in our home city, I read in a copy of the Sentinel an article entitled, "Every Step of the Way." The title alone seemed to give me reassurance, but the pain and severe nausea persisted.
The practitioner told my husband, who is not a Scientist, that nothing needed to interfere with the vacation, and such good work was done by her that by night I was able to move about the cabin without help and with only a little discomfort. Our plans called for a three-hundred-mile trip the next day with friends, who would have been unable to go except in our car. I am happy to say that all the plans were carried out, and except for a slight lameness, which left me in a few days, the healing was so quick as to seem miraculous.
We have had many other proofs of God's care in our home. Our son, who is now grown, was healed so quickly of a broken nose that the next day there was not even any discoloration. When he was ten years old, a school doctor told us that the boy had such a bad heart condition, caused by infected tonsils, that he should not be allowed to run or play. The practitioner who helped us recommended that the definition of man beginning on page 475 of Science and Health be read to him each morning. These truths so met the situation that when the physical examination was made the next year, he was pronounced "perfect," and allowed to take part in the track meet and in all subsequent athletic events in high school, such as football, swimming, and life-saving.
