More than five years ago, when...
More than five years ago, when I was nearly eighty and still enjoying excellent health, I noticed that there was something wrong with my voice. It now and then sounded husky. A specialist diagnosed the case as a cancerous tumor of the throat. He strongly advised me to have an operation to remove the tumor, although he did not conceal the fact that he would have to cut away the vocal cords as well, and I would henceforth be dumb.
I refused to submit to this and sought other help. This brought me in contact with Christian Science; and with the help of a practitioner I was healed and kept my voice. Anyone who can imagine himself in my position will understand how grateful I was and am—grateful to God, to whom I owe this healing, and also to Mrs. Eddy, who revealed Christian Science to us and to the practitioner who gave me such effective help.
I am sending this testimony, hoping that someone, finding himself in similar circumstances, may be encouraged to turn trustfully to Christian Science. This will bring him other benefits as well, as it did me. The study of Science and Health and of the other writings of Mrs. Eddy, the daily study of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, and the reading of the periodicals have, in a measure, opened my eyes to spiritual truth, so that I have joined The Mother Church in full conviction. I only regret that I came to Christian Science at a rather advanced age; for now I perceive how difficult it often is for those who have so long given their thoughts to material things to change their thinking to the spiritual. What a privilege is enjoyed by those who from early childhood have learned the truth in the Christian Science Sunday School! This is another thing made possible by Mrs. Eddy, and we cannot be sufficiently grateful to her for this provision, as well as for so many other wise provisions.— (Dr.) Jacob A. Schorer, Harderwijk, Netherlands.
