"Ah Lord God! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee" (Jer. 32: 17). Who can know the truth of such a declaration any better than the one who has proved it in his own experience? Christian Science has afforded me many proofs that God's power is equal to every emergency and that "earth has no sorrow that Love cannot cure" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 40).

When Christian Science was presented to me, I was greatly in need of a physical healing, for I had suffered for over twenty years from a stomach condition for which medical science could offer no cure. My mother had passed on from cancer of the stomach when I was about ten years old, and I was possessed with the belief that I had inherited a weakness from her. Every known remedy and treatment was used, and although I was appreciative of the sincere efforts of the many specialists who had tried to help me, I was very much discouraged and fearful. Therefore, when I heard that Christian Science heals through prayer, not requiring any bodily manipulation, medicines, or rigid diets, to which I had so long been subjected, my joy was unbounded. How eagerly I reached out for healing as I sought to learn something of this Science by reading its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science!

On pages 288 and 289 of this wonderful book, Mrs. Eddy makes this statement: "The eternal Truth destroys what mortals seem to have learned from error, and man's real existence as a child of God comes to light." There was much that I did not understand in that first reading of Science and Health, but the simple truths which I did understand and readily accepted destroyed then and there much of what I had learned from error. For the first time in my life "man's real existence as a child of God" began to dawn in my consciousness. I knew that Christian Science was what I wanted more than anything else, for I saw in it a promise of freedom from physical ills. One of the things which I so joyfully accepted in that first reading of the textbook was the truth which reversed the lie of heredity, and I can now see that this had much to do with the quick healing which took place some time before I finished the book. This healing occurred sixteen years ago and has been permanent.
