GREEN GRASS OF GRATITUDE

Green grass of gratitude, uplift my thought!
Transform the dust heaps and the wintry earth
Of loneliness, self-pity, hurt, and pride
With your compassionate growth and tender green,
And I will water with repentant tears
And tend the shoots with love and kindliness;
Reach deep into the warmth of kindling earth
With fingers quick to find the envious weeds,
The clinging growths of fear and self-conceit.

Green grass of gratitude, uplift my thought!
