LISTENING AND OBEYING

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Evelyn's father took her to the Christian Science Sunday School every Sunday morning. She loved to sing the hymns with the other little girls and boys. Later they would sit very quietly on small red chairs while the teacher told them about the people in Bible times who loved God and learned to obey His Commandments. Sometimes the teacher told them about Jesus and how he too loved to obey the same Commandments.

One Sunday morning the class talked about the First Commandment. found in the Bible, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me" (Ex. 20:3). The teacher then read from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 2). "God is Love." She told them that God, divine Love, would always guide and care for them when they listened for and obeyed His commands.

When the children asked questions. the teacher would listen and answer them lovingly. That morning Evelyn asked, "How can God take care of me?"
