In the early years of the Second World War, I was in extremely delicate health following several operations. I was adhering to a strict diet as a means of relief, although no permanent one could be offered. Added to this suffering and great discouragement was the burden of financial difficulties, our resources having been exhausted for medical care given me.

Some years ago I had been given a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy by one who thought it would benefit me, but as I doubted my ability to grasp its contents, I had laid it aside unread. However, another friend recommended Christian Science, and in my extremity I turned to it. I shall always be grateful to this clear one for her help in securing the services of a Christian Science practitioner for me.

The day of the appointment was damp and cold, and I was afraid to go out because of a severe arthritic condition. However, I was assured that I could go without harm to myself, and I went. That visit marked the beginning of a new life for me and a complete healing. For some weeks afterward I clung hopefully to the following verse of the Bible given me during this visit (II Cor. 6:16): "Ye are the temple of the living God."
