STEADFAST LOYALTY

Speaking of loyalty, Mary Baker Eddy, the revelator of Christian Science, writes (Retrospection and Introspection, p. 50), "By loyalty in students I mean this, —allegiance to God, subordination of the human to the divine, steadfast justice, and strict adherence to divine Truth and Love." Deep in the heart of every true Christian Scientist is the determination that he will measure up to that high standard of loyalty. It is well for him to remember that as the beloved son of God he reflects already every Christlike quality of divine Mind. He is reverently thankful for his God-given authority to remain faithful and allegiant to Truth and Love, his divine source, for Christian Science has revealed to him that there is never a moment when Mind does not fully express all that it includes.

What inspiration and comfort one finds in reviewing the Master's shining example of loyalty! In his faithful devotion to the mission appointed him he demonstrated complete and holy allegiance to God, the All-in-all. How perfectly his every thought and deed conformed to the Christ-ideal. The sublime proofs of Jesus' ministry—reforming the sinner, healing the sick, raising the dead, feeding the multitude —were radiant expositions of the Father's tender love manifesting itself through Jesus to mankind. He expressed love and forgiveness when the forces of hate and destruction seemed to carry the day. His experience in the garden of Gethsemane, followed by his crucifixion, was the greatest expression of obedience and unselfed love the world will ever know. His was a constant, not an occasional, dominion over mortality. He overcame every material law of discord and limitation, and finally he overcame death and the grave.

The beloved Leader of Christian Science through divine inspiration and revelation perceived that all men who think and act in accordance with the precepts which the Master taught and lived are empowered to accomplish, in like manner, the mighty works of God. Because of her life of tireless spiritual effort, unselfed service to mankind, and consecration to God, she was divinely led in every step she took in the discovery and founding of Christian Science. The Christian Scientist beholds the results of her God-revealed understanding of Truth and Love in countless tangible blessings to himself and others.
