EARLY STUDENT IN SCIENCE
How beautiful a thing the calm that comes
When God reveals His truth to human mind!
Then vanquished are the images unkind
That plague all quiet thought with restless drums
Of earthly strife. Such tyranny that numbs
Our searching soul and keeps our vision blind
To holy light must surely cease. We find
God's love is proof against our martyrdoms.
The revelation came to me when pain
Had gripped my heart and sorrow's doleful face
Expressed my fear and emphasized my woe.
Love's tender voice in Science said, "Refrain
From this unhelpful thing and seek God's grace
And spiritual dawn, if joy you'd know."
Walter Frederick Hannan
