For many years I have received help and inspiration from reading the testimonies in the Sentinel and The Christian Science Journal.

It has been over twenty years since I was healed of tuberculosis through Christian Science treatment. I had been brought up in a devout Christian home, and my family had placed me in a sanatorium for medical treatment. Although everyone was kind to me, my fear of the disease was intense. Then one day when a friend came to visit me, she told me that her next-door neighbors were Christian Scientists and that they received much help from reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. She suggested that I purchase this book, and I did. I lay in bed and read it, and although I felt I did not understand much of it, what I did understand allayed my fears.

At the end of six months I was allowed to leave the sanatorium, and the doctors said my improvement was miraculous. However, they told me that I must live a very sedentary life and continue as a semi-invalid. I went to my friend's home, and there I continued to read Science and Health. One day as I was lying on my cot on the back porch, a woman, who came regularly to sell eggs, said she had noticed that I was reading Science and Health. She told me that she was a student of Christian Science, and I told her that I had been helped by reading this book, as well as copies of the Sentinel, and that I would like to know more about this Science.
