On page 152 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, we read, "Truth has a healing effect, even when not fully understood." This was proved eighteen years ago when I first read this book, which I borrowed from a Christian Science Reading Room. I read it from cover to cover and found myself saying, "Why, of course, this is true."
In a few weeks I found that I was healed of bronchial asthma from which I had suffered for over twenty years, of severe head pains for which doctors could only give temporary relief by drugs, of weakness and loss of weight due to what is medically termed change of life, and of a cough from which I was never free. All these healings have been permanent. At the same time all desire for social drinking and gambling, also the smoking habit, disappeared and they have never returned. A very bad temper, over which I seemed to have no control and which caused great unhappiness to myself and my family, was also healed. I cannot say in words how grateful I am for the latter healing; it is indeed a joyous thing to be free from this bondage.
Supply was demonstrated when our house had to be sold owing to business failure after World War I, and I can truly say our need was met in a wonderful way. For the love and help of a practitioner during this experience of seeming loss I am very grateful indeed. My gratitude for Christian Science grows daily. I am grateful for harmony in the home, and since studying Christian Science I have been able to fulfill all business and house-hold duties without being confined to bed as formerly. My one desire is to serve the Cause of Christian Science, which was founded by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and to walk in the way of Christ Jesus, the Way-shower. For membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and also for the great privilege of class instruction, I am truly grateful.—(Mrs.) Amy Drage, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.
