No allergy

Christian Science healing is based on the words and works of Christ Jesus. The Master knew the hearts of men and could detect the mental nature of the disease which was holding his patient in bondage. Often he effaced the image of disease with a word; sometimes he required the sufferer to take some action in proof of inward purification, repentance, or spiritual regeneration. But always he knew that man's spotless selfhood is a veritable spiritual fact. Mary Baker Eddy encourages us in our demonstration of this selfhood by saying (Unity of Good, p. 6), "Sooner or later the whole human race will learn that in proportion as the spotless selfhood of God is understood, human nature will be renovated, and man will receive a higher selfhood, derived from God, and the redemption of mortals from sin, sickness, and death be established on everlasting foundations."

One who had been contending with a skin difficulty of long standing inquired at a drugstore for a cream which would agree with a sensitive skin. The druggist responded: "Sir, I have been in this business for forty years. I find most creams pretty much alike. If you find that a particular cream does not agree with your skin, it is because you are allergic to some ingredient in the cream,"

The word allergic stood out boldly to the shop visitor because it had been pounded at him by advertisements in the press and on the radio. Later he found the following enlightening dictionary definition of allergy: "Excessive sensitiveness to certain substances, as germs, pollen, food, . . . which are harmless to most people."
