Christian Science has truly regenerated...
Christian Science has truly regenerated my life. Before I found this religion I was unhappy and fearful and had had anemia for many years. I was on the stage at the time I found Christian Science, and I began going to church with a member of our company. I did not go for healing, but simply for sociability. After I had attended the Sunday services for several weeks I threw away all the medicines I had been taking, although no one had spoken to me about doing this, and I had no idea that I could go to anyone for help. In a short time I realized I was completely cured of this disease. I did no particular work for this condition because I knew only what I had heard read from the desk a few times, but I had been so uplifted mentally that the healing followed, and it has been permanent.
A sprained ankle, ptomaine poisoning, blood poisoning in a finger, an abscessed ear, and many other painful conditions have been healed. At no time did I have to stop my work, and no one with whom I worked ever knew I had any difficulty to meet.
On page 369 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says, "The prophylactic and therapeutic (that is, the preventive and curative) arts belong emphatically to Christian Science, as would be readily seen, if psychology, or the Science of Spirit, God, was understood." For several days I had been rejoicing in the statement that Mrs. Eddy makes in "Pulpit and Press" (p. 4), "You have simply to preserve a scientific, positive sense of unity with your divine source, and daily demonstrate this." I was preparing dinner at the time and had put some chops in an iron skillet under the broiler. In about five minutes I looked at the chops, still holding in thought my oneness with my Father-Mother God. I took hold of the handle of the hot skillet with my bare hand, but instantly I realized that I could not be made to believe in a selfhood apart from God. I did not look at my hand, but completed the dinner, and did not think of the situation again until the next day. There was no trace of the incident.
