Ayer, Massachusetts (First Church).

Dedication services for First Church of Christ, Scientist, Ayer, were held in the church edifice on Sunday, January 29, 1950, in the morning and afternoon.

Christian Science services in this area were first held in Harvard, Massachusetts, in the home of an early student of Science in the year 1905. The attendance at first was small, but interest steadily increased. This resulted in the organizing of Christian Science Society, Ayer, in May, 1907. The society continued to grow in membership, and two rooms were secured in the Turner Block on Main Street.

A building fund was established in 1928 and land purchased on which to erect a church.

The cornerstone was laid on August 31, 1937. The first service was held on Wednesday evening, November 24, and on the following day, November 25, the regular Thanksgiving Day service was held.

In January, 1938, the society was reorganized and became First Church of Christ, Scientist, Ayer.

At first there was no separate Sunday School room, and the number of children attending was small. Since the completion of the Sunday School room the attendance has steadily increased.
