LOVE LEADS THE WAY

It is the custom of the shepherd to lead the sheep of his fold into pleasant places. Using this illustration to indicate divine Love's tender provision for its children, the Psalmist wrote (23:1, 2): "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters." There is then a Love-led way out of the wilderness of disease and sin. Inspiring thought this! And we find the exit from the realm of the unreal as we permit the great Shepherd, divine Love, to spiritualize our consciousness and lead us into all truth. The question is, Are we willing to let divine Love lead us into the spiritual sense of being, which Christian Science unfolds? To be led of Love means abandoning the false material sense of self with its load of care and tumult of fear and discerning the verity that the man of God's creating is not material, but wholly spiritual, even the expression of sinless Soul, Life, Mind.

True selfhood is not being led into or out of human frailty, disease, or sin. Being immortal, God's reflection is what nonintelligent matter can never be, namely, the Love-inspired, Love-led idea of Spirit. The image of God is forever with its divine Principle, Love, just as the sunshine is inseparable from the sun. Therefore man unceasingly manifests God's love, reflects His uprightness, purity, perfection, and entertains the sense of eternal Life. Hence evil is unreal, corporeal sense a lie, and mortal existence the dream of a creative power apart from God.

All may enter this path of spiritual knowing and learn how to prove the nothingness of evil and the omnipotence of God, good. Hence the import of Mrs. Eddy's words on page 454 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way."
