FORGIVENESS ESSENTIAL TO HEALING

In the ninth chapter of Matthew's Gospel are recorded these encouraging and compassionate words of the Master to the man sick of the palsy: "Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee." Almost immediately he followed this with the command, "Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house." And we read, "He arose, and departed to his house."

Jesus was not changing anything real. He was knowing that man is God's son, the perfect spiritual off-spring of the one Father-Mother Love, the outcome of omnipotent Truth, the emanation of omnipresent Life. This truth of man's perfection had always been true, was true at that moment, and would forever continue to be true; consequently, there had never been a moment when the error of palsy had been real, or in other words, part of God's creation.

Christ Jesus' great love for humanity was evidenced in his holding only to the true concept of God and man. This truth filled his consciousness with tenderness and true might and made possible his healing works. Understanding God to be the only creator, we too can say to ourselves and our neighbor, "Be of good cheer," rejoice, for your true spiritual identity is God's image and likeness, the reflection of all that is pure and holy. God's completeness being forever expressed. there is no room for something apart from God.
