It is with a heart full of gratitude...
It is with a heart full of gratitude to God for Christian Science that I write this testimony. For the privilege of reading the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly daily, and for the wonderful periodicals from The Christian Science Publishing Society, I am indeed grateful. Christian Science has helped me to get a better understanding of God, and it has been a blessing to me each day of the twenty-three years that I have studied it. It has helped me in everything that I have tried to do.
During the recent war I served four years and eight months in the Army, including twenty months in the combat zone with an infantry division. Christian Science helped me through every minute of that trying and, to mortal sense, dangerous experience. Before going overseas, I was given pocket-size editions of the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy by a Christian Science Wartime Minister. I kept those two books, together with the current Christian Science Quarterly, in my possession at all times and studied them at every opportunity. I tried to let the inspiration that I obtained from those books help and influence in a spiritual way the soldiers around me. Considering my experience, I do not see how I could have gone through it uninjured without the guidance, the comfort, and the spiritual uplift of Christian Science. Even at night with no lights, when the enemy attack would intensify and everyone was fearful, I was helped by remembering the spiritual truths that I had learned in my study of Christian Science. I shall always be grateful to God for Christian Science and for comfort from fear in numberless anxious moments.
Since the war I have had the blessed privilege of class instruction. I felt that Christian Science had helped me so much during the war that I could not afford to wait any longer for class instruction and a better understanding of God. I have always been overpaid for any time I have given to the study of Science.
