In the hope that someone may...

In the hope that someone may be helped by my experiences when first coming into Christian Science, I submit the following.

Shortly after commencing this study, I borrowed the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy from a Christian Science Reading Room. I read it through and thought it very exacting in its demands upon members. Later I said to those in my home: "I could never become a member of that Church; its laws are far too exacting. But I shall keep on reading because I find it helpful and beautiful." A few years later I went to the Reading Room and looked through the Church Manual again. I searched for the Rules I had thought so binding, but could not find them. Again and again the leaves were turned, but I have never found what it was that had appeared so exacting; my thought had completely changed. I now see the Manual By-Laws as a guide to right doing and right thinking.

Some time later a festered thumb drained and healed in about a couple of days after treatment had been given by a practitioner. This condition had persisted for some weeks, and I was afraid it would prevent me from doing some work which I had promised to do. I was out on the hillside in the country one day, and suddenly a feeling of joy came over me. On m return to the house I took off the bandage and found the thumb had drained. A letter received from the practitioner a few days later showed that she must have received my letter telling her of this condition and had given the treatment at the time I was on the hillside.
