MRS. EDDY, A SPIRITUAL PROPHET

ALL Christian Scientists think and speak with deep reverence and appreciation of Mary Baker Eddy as a great discoverer, a great teacher, a great organizer, and as the greatest religious leader of her time. Her outstanding achievements in this wide range of accomplishments bear out the truth of all that has been written or said in praise of her natural endowments. From the standpoint of the world the exercise of any one of these distinguishing accomplishments would have merited special commendation.

But there is still another talent that might well be added to the native ability which finds frequent expression in her writings. Her genius for looking into the future places her among the most gifted spiritual seers or prophets of all time. Mrs. Eddy's writings are full of prophesies of the blessings that will be unfolded in the future through scientific right thinking as taught in Christian Science. She foresaw and foretold the opposition that Christian Science would encounter through the world's resistance to Truth, but she also foresaw the final triumph of our Cause over every attack of error.

Here is one such prophecy from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 110), and it may be added that all the other prophecies referred to in this article are also taken from this textbook: "No human pen nor tongue taught me the Science contained in this book, SCIENCE AND HEALTH; and neither tongue nor pen can overthrow it. This book may be distorted by shallow criticism or by careless or malicious students, and its ideas may be temporarily abused and misrepresented; but the Science and truth therein will forever remain to be discerned and demonstrated." This book has been distorted, misquoted, and misrepresented in every conceivable way, but we are witnessing the Science and truth therein being increasingly discerned and demonstrated.
