I am grateful for the channels...
I am grateful for the channels provided us through which to express our gratitude to God for all His loving-kindness to His children. Christian Science came into my experience in my early childhood and healed me of a bad temper and an unhappy disposition. It also healed me of fear of tuberculosis and a knee injury.
We have raised two children in this blessed truth and are grateful for the protection our son received throughout the last war. I am grateful to the practitioner who helped us through that most trying period. Many so-called children's diseases have been healed. Scarlet fever was met and mastered in one day through our studying Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. An attack of measles was destroyed by denial that the physical evidence has a place in God's kingdom.
We lived on a farm during part of our lives and proved the power of Christian Science many times in the healing of animals and in other problems. On one occasion my husband lost a purse which contained the money for our taxes and current bills. He had been preparing a field for seed, and when he discovered his loss he asked me if I would help him find it. He had been turning the ground over with a fork, looking for over an hour, but with no success. I declared immediately that there is never anything lost, for God's kingdom is the only kingdom, and went with him to the field. I walked to the edge of the plowed ground, stooped down, and picked up the purse at my feet.
I am so grateful for the wonderful articles in The Christian Science Journal and Sentinel and for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church. I am also grateful for the blessed privilege of class instruction and for the many friends who have helped me along the way.—(Mrs.) MARION E. SCHLUETER, Long Beach, California.
I wish to verify my mother's testimony. I am so deeply grateful for having been brought up in the truth. Often it seemed impossible to attend church many miles away, but my mother found a way. For a time while attending college I became mesmerized by a false sense of time and neglected my study of Christian Science. I was busy with everything but God and successful at nothing. Suddenly realizing the great mistake I was making, I reversed my schedule and did my studying first. Needless to say, I soon found that I had time to do everything I needed to do, and I had great peace and joy in successful accomplishments. I have since been happier, healthier, and a great deal more useful to my loved ones. I am more grateful than I can say for Christian Science and to my mother for teaching me the truths of Christian Science when I was a child.—(Mrs.) MARILYN JARVIS, Los Angeles, California.
I am son mentioned in my mother's testimony. I should like to express my gratitude for the beneficial training which I received in the Christian Science Sunday School during my childhood. During the Second World War, I was part of a bomber crew stationed in England. God brought me back through enemy flak and fighters thirty-five times without even a scratch. Following is one of the many instances in which God's protection was ever with me.
It was very foggy when our crew reached our B-24 bomber at four o'clock one morning. We took off in fog, and half an hour later, with the rest of the ships in our squadron, we were gradually climbing up to twenty thousand feet. I opened my copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and read a few lines, as I did whenever I had time on my missions. Just as we entered the area over the Zuider Zee, a voice snapped over the interphone, "Bandits in the area." At that instant it seemed the sky was full of enemy fighters. I repeated over and over again, "God is my only protection," and also "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468). When we returned to our base there was not a scratch on our aircraft. On our first mission there were two hundred and fifty-seven flak and bullet holes in our ship, yet not one of the nine men constituting our crew was injured. I shall eternally thank God for the protection I experienced throughout the war.—MAURICE A. SCHLUETER, Los Angeles, California.
