I am most grateful to God for Christ Jesus, for Mary Baker Eddy, and for all the healings and blessings that have come to me through Christian Science. My first healing occurred after I had taken my stand for Christian Science, deeply desiring to do God's will. At that time I understood little of the truth, but I had attended the Wednesday evening testimony meetings and the Sunday services for some time, and the importance of trusting God under all circumstances was clear to me.

Soon my sincerity was to be tested. My finger had become badly infected, and the pain was intense. I was tempted, because of the concern of friends and the desire for relief of pain, to apply medicine, as I had done before I knew of Christian Science. But I stood firm. My prayer was to do God's will, and I had confidence that He would show me the way.

After a sleepless night of pain and because I was too restless to stay at home, I went to call for a friend at a dentist's office. The dentist saw my finger and voiced alarm at the condition. Then without asking me he called in a surgeon who occupied the office next door. This doctor took one look and advised an immediate operation. I told him that I was a Christian Scientist and that an operation would not be necessary.
