"THE SIGN OF THE PROPHET JONAS"

We should never belittle our spiritual understanding. We have sufficient to meet the demands of the hour, and that is all we require. Spiritual understanding enables us to be wholly conscious of good and thereby to extinguish evil.

A gleam of light results in an object becoming visible. The object may be present, but it is invisible until the light reveals it. This illustrates the effect of spiritual understanding. It reveals that which is invisible to material sense but tangible and real to spiritual consciousness. Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 509), "The light of spiritual understanding gives gleams of the infinite only, even as nebulæ indicate the immensity of space."

Many Christian theologians believe that the ultimate reality of existence is spiritual, but comparatively few understand that the universe and the man of Spirit's creating are here now awaiting a beam of spiritual understanding to reveal them.
