SALVATION THROUGH TRUE EDUCATION

CHRIST JESUS came to bring salvation to the world. He taught and utilized the laws of God, the laws of Life, completeness, and harmony. He was a true educator because he received his knowledge and wisdom from God; he was the master Teacher of Christianity, and his teaching reversed all material logic. The premise for all his conclusions and deductions was his teaching that God is Spirit. He made such assertions as, "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life" (John 6:63). His teaching clearly set forth that only Spirit animates, gives life and existence, and that the flesh, or matter, contributes nothing whatsoever and is altogether unprofitable. It was through their understanding of this logical teaching of their great Master and Teacher that Christ Jesus' disciples were able to perform miraculous healings similar to those he performed.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 61): "The education of the future will be instruction, in spiritual Science, against the material symbolic counterfeit sciences. All the knowledge and vain strivings of mortal mind, that lead to death, —even when aping the wisdom and magnitude of immortal Mind, — will be swallowed up by the reality and omnipotence of Truth over error, and of Life over death." Our Leader also writes in the Message to The Mother Church for 1901 (p. 26): "The unity and consistency of Jesus' theory and practice give my tired sense of false philosophy and material theology rest. The great teacher, preacher, and demonstrator of Christianity is the Master, who founded his system of metaphysics only on Christ, Truth, and supported it by his words and deeds."

When the revelation of the Christ-principle came to her, Mrs. Eddy found herself healed of a supposedly incurable condition and restored to health and strength. At the moment of her reading the account of Jesus' healing of the palsied man (Matt. 9:2—8), Christianity took on a new meaning to her, and she learned then and there that she had perceived the healing truth of whose availability the master Christian had given clear proof nineteen hundred years before. His promise (John 8:12), "I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life," was fulfilled. Thereafter Mrs. Eddy proved the theology of Jesus by healing both sickness and sin. Her discovery that all is Mind and its perfect ideas is logical and demonstrable.
