In my search for a more satisfying...
In my search for a more satisfying religious experience I turned to Christian Science and was promptly healed of a long-standing condition of the spine, called misaligned vertebrae, the result of an injury. This difficulty had baffled chiropractic and regular physicians, whose manipulations and tapings gave no relief. At that time also I was healed of recurrent spells of melancholia, and I was freed from frequent colds. These healings took place over twenty years ago and were the result of my reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, proving, as she says on page 369, that "the prophylactic and therapeutic (that is, the preventive and curative) arts belong emphatically to Christian Science, as would be readily seen, if psychology, or the Science of Spirit, God, was understood."
Great gratitude comes to me when I recall the consecrated work of a Christian Science practitioner, the selfless devotion of a dear one, and the loving care I received during a ten-month period at a nursing home, where I had gone because of a collapse and nervous breakdown. Despite a desire to die and the expectancy of death, the unremitting application of the truth as taught in Christian Science brought about my complete restoration, and I returned to my job entirely healed. The loving-kindness and consideration of my associates and fellow workers was most helpful. This healing was due to the persistent adherence to the basic truth of Christian Science (ibid., p. 336), "God, the divine Principle of man, and man in God's likeness are inseparable, harmonious, and eternal."
During three years of service in the last World War, part of this time as a volunteer Wartime Worker on a Pacific island, I was protected from all untoward conditions. The Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly were read daily, and each day's experience was a proof of the fatherhood and motherhood of God.
