Although I did not come into...

Although I did not come into Christian Science for physical healing, it was not long after I became a student that a testing time came, a test as to whether I would call on materia medica as I had always done previously or work my problem out in Science. Doctors would have named the trouble kidney stones. I have always been most humbly grateful that I turned wholeheartedly and unreservedly to Christian Science for healing.

A practitioner was called, and work was taken up at once. After the pain subsided somewhat, I was able to read and be more receptive to what the practitioner was telling me. The following references were left with me to read and study: "the scientific statement of being" on page 468 of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, also page 269, lines 21 to 13 next page; and from the Bible, Paul's discourse on Mars' Hill, Acts 17:22-31, particularly verse 28. These references I have found helpful many times since.

Through my daily study of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, Science and Health, the other writings of Mrs. Eddy, the periodicals of Christian Science, and with the work of the practitioner, I had two outstanding healings. The first was of the need of wearing glasses, which I had worn for nearly twenty years; the second was of the belief of having pleasure in smoking, which had been a habit with me ever since I was quite a young lad.
