More than twenty years ago I borrowed a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy to learn about Christian Science as a matter of information, with no thought of seeking healing.

As I read this book in an effort to understand its teachings, I found myself free from an eye condition which over a period of years had made reading difficult and from which treatments by eye specialists had given no relief. I read the book for many hours—and late at night —with no sense of discomfort; and never again have I suffered from this difficulty.

Freedom from this painful and annoying condition, which for many years had interfered with schoolwork, and the use of my eyes meant much to me, but I became so interested in the assuring and satisfying religion which Christian Science offered that little attention was given to the healing. I had found the spiritual interpretation of the Scriptures which removed the inconsistencies that had seemed to exist in the Bible; I had found the religion which gave answers to questions about the Bible that I had long sought and that made clear the words and works of Jesus. Immediately I recognized the good which this new study was bringing into my experience and was grateful, but at that time I did not understand the healing power of the Christ, Truth.
