"EASY AND INSTANTANEOUS"

An outstanding characteristic of the healings performed by Christ Jesus was their immediacy. The fact that no great length of time was required implies that they were performed without exhausting effort. This is encouraging to Christian Scientists who, through prayerful study, earnest application, and heartfelt gratitude, strive to obey Jesus' command (Matt. 10:8), "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give."

The Master's example brings renewed inspiration to persist and to expect the Christ-understanding to be demonstrated right where error's despondency and doubt claim delay, obstruction, or hopelessness. His invitation is to do that which is ever possible with God's help, and his example shows us how we may do the instantaneous works which he did, and which he expected his followers to do.

Mary Baker Eddy has revealed God to be the source of the power, law, and authority by which the Master's works were accomplished. She points to an understanding of perfect God and perfect man as the basis of his healings, explaining Jesus' demonstrations in these comprehensive words in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which Scientists repeatedly study and strive to follow (pp. 476, 477): "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick. Thus Jesus taught that the kingdom of God is intact, universal, and that man is pure and holy." Our primary need as Christian healers, then, is to gain quickly and hold "this correct view of man." In the light of Mrs. Eddy's revelation, the only real man is the image and likeness of God, a complete, perfect, spiritual idea.
