I became acquainted with Christian Science in the summer of 1946, after I had been more or less ill for twenty-five years. In the Year following I gained a completely new outlook.

Early in January, 1943, I fell and dislocated my right hip. I had to go to the hospital, and during my stay there painful inflammation of the hip joint developed, which despite treatment did not improve. Three months later I was allowed to go home, but I could hardly stand. When I tried to move, I experienced much pain. Most of the time I spent in bed. Once or twice a week I went to see the doctor. On my way there I had to pass the local Church of Christ, Scientist. I was seeking help from doctors and did not notice how close at hand true freedom awaited me. However, "man's extremity is God's opportunity." This I proved in a wonderful manner.

A friend called my attention to Christian Science. She brought me the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Simply through my reading of the textbook the pain diminished and I was able to walk fairly well. This gave me so much confidence that I began to hope for the full return of my health.
