ATTAINING PEACE AND HARMONY

Probably the one question uppermost in the thought of humanity is, How can peace and harmony be attained? Christ Jesus, the clearest-minded observer of all time, attained them. Indeed, he said (John 14:27): "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." Jesus had peace always, and that one as much as any other of his divine characteristics set him apart from his fellow men. Jesus lived peace; he maintained it under circumstances usual and unusual, friendly or otherwise. His peace was expressed in composure and strength; and he left his example for all to follow.

Christian Science illumines the way by which the precepts of Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, may best be followed. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy makes the following statements on page 392: "Your decisions will master you, whichever direction they take," and, "Stand porter at the door of thought." Jesus repeatedly gave the encouraging counsel not to be troubled or afraid, but to rest securely in the certain knowledge that nothing ever has been created except by God and that His creation is good. By taking this viewpoint and holding steadfastly to it, one attains the power to prove his God-given freedom from unpeaceable and unjust laws which mortal mind would enact.

A student of Christian Science was able to prove this recently in business. He was supplying a certain commodity to a firm which had been doing a good business. However, through a series of events this firm became very much involved financially, which eventually impaired its credit. The date was approaching when this firm would need to have more of the commodity or shut down completely.
