ACTION DERIVES FROM GOD

A Simple black lead pencil bore the inscription, "Half the pressure, twice the speed." A clever maxim, mused the observer, but what is pressure and whence the speed? In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy pertinently asks the following question (p. 399): "If Mind is the only actor, how can mechanism be automatic?" In this age of tremendous pressures and high speeds it is well to realize that divine Mind indeed is the only actor and that divine Mind alone produces action, feels action, manifests action, and controls it.

Mrs. Eddy's discovery that Mind is God, hence infinite, and that all is Mind, opened to the world the immeasurable potentialities of Mind. And because human thought translates all things into terms of matter, there has followed in the wake of this discovery what appears as an unprecedented era of material progress and invention, breaking down on every hand the restrictions of matter. The human concepts of time, space, distance are being exposed as purely relative as it is seen that their limitation decreases in proportion as human knowledge increases. Economic values and social structure are likewise undergoing revolutionary changes. Yet the contradiction of the human mind is such that with all its labor-saving devices, time-saving transportation, and efforts at social betterment, the pressure of human living augments and the tyranny of human bondage is unabated.
