WE LIVE TO GIVE
Christian Science proclaims that man's purpose is to express the nature of God. It is as natural and unlabored for man, God's reflection, to image forth God's qualities of good as it is for a ray of sunlight to give forth warmth and light.
Mankind is often mesmerized into believing that its main concern should be to get rather than to give. Under the influence of this supposition, men and women become preoccupied with the endeavor to get more money and greater prestige or to accumulate material things. But the mere attainment of this end never assures real satisfaction, because our true selfhood is found in spiritual giving, not in material getting.
For those who find their lives barren and unsatisfying, either with or without an abundance of material things, Christian Science offers a richly satisfying experience. It teaches men how to exchange the narrow pattern of fearful and greedy living for the wider, fuller way of joyous benevolence. Life imbued with the spirit of such benevolence is accompanied by an increasing sense of health, happiness, and satisfaction. Anyone may experience this harmonious state of being in the measure that he is willing to manifest divine Love in true unselfishness.
