THINKING FROM THE STANDPOINT OF SPIRITUAL REALITY

The importance of one's daily thinking is well indicated by that often-quoted statement in Proverbs (23:7), "As he thinketh in his heart, so is he." Whether our thoughts are profound or shallow, they can be placed in one of two categories: they are either about that which is true or about that which is not true.

But what is true? Reality is defined in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, as follows (p. 335): "Reality is spiritual, harmonious, immutable, immortal, divine, eternal." Explaining further, Mrs. Eddy continues: "Nothing unspiritual can be real, harmonious, or eternal. Sin, sickness, and mortality are the suppositional antipodes of Spirit, and must be contradictions of reality." To accept these statements is to conclude, for one thing, that all that we call material is unreal, as Christian Science is daily proving.

In order to understand why materiality is unreal, we must know what Christian Science reveals about God. We learn that God is All-in-all; that is, infinite and all-inclusive. He is Spirit, Mind, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, and Love. Each one of these seven words is a synonym for God, but each has a special connotation which helps us to understand the infinite God. Through the study of divine Science we learn that there is nothing outside of God and His creation, because there can be nothing outside of infinity.
