In all humility I wish to express...

In all humility I wish to express my sincere gratitude to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for her gift of Christian Science.

When I was a young child, my voice became so weak that I could not speak out loud. I could only whisper, and even that was difficult to do at times. Physicians told me that there was no more they could do for me. At times there was some progress, and then again the condition would grow radically worse, according to the amount of fear I entertained.

After some years of service with those who were kind enough to employ me, I had earned sufficient money to pay my way to the United States. There I found employment, and through listening to other people's conversation I began to speak some English, but even after two years others had much difficulty in understanding me. Before this I had spoken only my native tongue, Danish, and had had no knowledge of English. I began to read Christian Science and was led to work in the way indicated in Isaiah (28:10): "For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little." After several years of study of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, with the help of a dictionary, I could read and write the English language, as well as speak it, and I found that I was entirely free from the ailment mentioned.
