It is with a joyful heart that I tell of how I found Christian Science, and I trust that from this testimony someone may find comfort and courage.

When I was a high school student, a dear friend and classmate was healed in one treatment by a Christian Science practitioner of a throat infection which was believed to be dangerous. The following Sunday she and I attended our first Christian Science service.

A few years later, while I was visiting in my mother's home, fear and anxiety caused my mother, who was not a Christian Scientist, to have my lungs examined by her physician. His examination revealed an infection. Fortified by what I had learned at church services and through my reading, I immediately turned my thought away from his prediction to a statement of truth contained in Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy which reads (p. 142), "God being All-in-all, He made medicine; but that medicine was Mind." Also I studied this comforting sentence on page 463: "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive." I realized that the physician had expressed only a human opinion, which had no power of its own, and that God is the only lawmaker for man. When these beautiful truths flooded my consciousness I was healed, and the healing has been permanent.
