After four surgical operations I...
After four surgical operations I was still suffering from difficulties which doctors said wore: incurable and could be relieved only through the use of morphine. I had been so long in bondage to these ailments that I had given up all hope of being released.
Sharing my hospital room was a woman who had been placed there, by her employer for care during the healing of a fractured bone, because she had no other place to go, this woman took no medicine and was always happy. Noticing my suffering she gave me a copy of The Christian Science Journal and begged me to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, assuring me I could be healed. That same day my husband heard of Christian Science through a friend and was so impressed that he visited a Reading Room and brought me a copy of the same Journal when he called m the evening. The following morning my husband signed a paper releasing the hospital of all responsibility and took me home.
When I called at my family physician's office for the report from the hospital, he told me I could never be well and gave me a prescription for morphine to be taken when needed. I did not have the prescription filled, but made my first call on a Science practitioner, who gave me such a clear sense of God as Love, as All, and as ever present that my healing was instantaneous. I went home rejoicing and from that time took care of my household duties without any difficulty. Some months later adhesions developed from the previous operations. One afternoon, when I was suffering severely, a neighbor who was present became alarmed and called in my former physician. He gave me a hypodermic and insisted upon an immediate operation, stating that the adhesions were very large. I asked him to wait, and I called the practitioner, who gave me these assuring words: "I here is nothing to fear; the only operation is the operation of Truth and Love." and she quoted from Science and Health (p. 124), "Adhesion, cohesion, and attraction are properties of Mind." The statement that adhesion is a property of Mind impressed me very much: also the thought that Mind is God and God is good, therefore only good can be manifested. With these thoughts I fell asleep and awakened a short time later completely healed. I had dinner with my family and the next day attended a wedding, much to the surprise of my neighbors and friends, and this healing has been permanent.
