"Be not afraid"

Our Lord "in all points tempted like as we are" must have known this temptation to worry—... whether his disciples would, with all their petty jealousies, glimpse the vision he was trying to get across. And yet, quite firmly and definitely, he said, "Be not ... anxious" (Matt. 6:31, Rev. Ver.), don't worry; and he didn't. On the contrary, he gave his disciples some very pertinent reasons why they should not. ...

When you get down to things, worry is evidence that something is fundamentals wrong. In the Sermon on the Mount, our Lord attributed worry to a divided loyalty. "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon" (Matt. 6:24, Rev. Ver.). And in doing so, with unerring accuracy he placed his finger on one of the greatest weaknesses today. ...
