INNOCENCY
The
Psalmist sang. "I will wash mine hands
In innocency." He meekly longed to free
His thought from matter stains. Innocency stands:
Fresh, immaculate, strong, a fruitful tree
Of Life to all who humbly cleanse each thought
Of error's claim to life. Thus Daniel saw
The lions under Love's control and sought
To let no fleshly self incite or draw
Their greed and hate. Praying, he laid no claim
To sense apart from God's all-knowing love;
And so he knew Love's care. We too can tame
The carnal elements that seem to rove
Our world. Unwavering command belongs
To Soul, to Mind: to Him we raise our songs!
