PREPARING FOR CHRISTMAS

As this issue of the Sentinel goes forth, men, women, and children in many parts of the earth are, in one way or another, preparing for the great Christian celebration of Christmas. To overworked salespeople in many shops the Christmas season becomes almost a nightmare, and longingly do they look for its passing. What an opportunity to bless and strengthen such public servants is given to the Christian Scientist, who is learning to nullify unjust material laws and bring to human view a glimpse of the kingdom of heaven, harmony! A loving word of encouragement and cheer to a seemingly wearied salesperson, or best of all the habitual acknowledgment of man's strength and harmony as the image of God, is a veritable ministering angel as one moves among his fellows. In such a circumstance, one is not preparing for Christmas; he is actually celebrating it. As the beloved Phillips Brooks wrote,

Where charity stands watching
And faith holds wide the door,
The dark night wakes, the glory breaks,
And Christmas comes once more.
