THE COST OF LIVING

Three things are commonly accepted as essential to normal human living—food, clothing, shelter. In the effort to acquire these admitted essentials in the quantity and quality which it considers necessary, humanity meets main discouragements and difficulties which tend to emphasize the belief of lack.

High cost of living presents itself periodically and for the most part is regarded as unavoidable. In spite of its frequent occurrence in our economy, no effective method of controlling prices has been found. Faced with high living costs, humanity usually believes that one of two alternatives is compulsory: more material income or a lower standard of living.

The alert student of Christian Science refuses to accept this human situation as the fact of being. He clings steadfastly to the conviction that as he seeks and claims man's God-given heritage of spiritual abundance whatever is needful for a well-ordered human existence will of necessity follow.
